Canon's printing consumable business on the upswing as number of units sold grows
In the printing business, the supply of digital laminators for office use gradually recovered, and sales of the iR-ADV DX C5800, a medium-speed colour machine, were strong. In the production digital printing systems segment, the image PRESS V1350 colour digital press and the image PRESS V series continued to expand their product lines, resulting in good sales and an increase in the number of units sold. In summary, second-quarter revenue in this segment rose 0.8% year-on-year to 574.9 billion yen.
Downside risks from global geopolitical risks and continued inflation leading to global monetary tightening are expected to remain in the second half of 2023. However, on the other hand, the fallout of epidemics has restored normal order to the markets, and thus the world economy as a whole is on a recovery trend.
Analyses indicate that market demand remains firm for digital laminators for office use and for more productive printers. For inkjet printers, new demand for home printing as a result of the outbreak, as well as refillable high-capacity printers, is expected to continue to grow. For laser printers, demand due to office decentralisation will return in the second half of the year.
