IDC Releases Worldwide Printing Market Shipment Report 2023Q2
IDC analyzed that the decline in shipments and shipment value in the quarter was primarily due to pent-up demand and excess inventory being met in previous quarters. Another reason was the decline in consumer demand due to the overall economy.
The three largest regional markets, China, the U.S. and Western Europe, all experienced year-over-year declines in the second quarter of 2023, driven by lower demand for A4 printers in both the commercial and consumer markets. In the near term, demand in the non-commercial market is expected to remain subdued, while demand in the commercial market is likely to remain strong, particularly for A3 printers.
Among the top five vendors in terms of shipments in the quarter, Brother and Pantum were the only two to achieve growth in performance, with shipments increasing by 9.6% and 14.6% respectively. Reasons for this include their success in catering to the commercial sector, with their lower-priced models gaining some traction among small and medium-sized businesses.
