Power outage in Vietnam! Canon factory printing consumable production affected
As the temperature in Vietnam continues to rise, the demand for electricity has soared, leading to electricity shortages in many parts of the country. Since the beginning of June, some industrial parks have experienced sudden power cuts, disrupting factory production for a time. Vietnamese media reported that the parks where factories of multinational companies, including Canon, are located, have experienced 24-hour rotating power cuts, and the previously busy factories were quiet.
According to Vietnamese media reports, in order to ensure electricity for residential use and industrial production at the same time, the provincial governments of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang have introduced temporary power distribution measures in addition to calls for electricity saving, giving priority to production during the day and living at night, and factories with urgent orders to be fulfilled can apply to produce from 0am to 5am, a plan that is in place until the end of June for the time being. However, reports say that there are still concerns from manufacturers that production is being affected.
Canon has been producing printers in northern Vietnam since 2012, but because the supply chain for a product like printers is so large and Vietnamese factories cannot supply all the components, only 20 of the 175 Canon suppliers in Vietnam to date are local Vietnamese factories, and most of these factories are responsible for producing plastic parts and packaging.
In the field of electronic component manufacturing, large multinational companies such as Samsung and Canon have set up factories in industrial parks here. The production of electronic components mostly uses high-capacity machines, which have a high demand for electricity.
It is not clear exactly what Canon's losses were.
